Two Kidnapped Catholic Priests Freed In Edo

Benin City, Nigeria – Two Rev. Fathers reportedly abducted by gunmen last weekend have been released in Edo State.

The clerics regained freedom on Tuesday, July 5, 2022.

The state police command stated this in a statement issued by its Deputy Public Relations Officer ASP Jennifer Iwegbu, on Wednesday, July 6, 2022.

She stated: “The Edo state police Command wishes to inform the general public that the two Rev Fathers, Rev Fr. Philemon Oboh of St Joseph Retreat Center, Inemen Ukpoke,Ugboha and Rev Fr. Peter Udoh of St Patrick Catholic Church, Ebhoyi, Uromi, have been rescued unhurt and since been reunited with their Parishioners and family members .

“The Rev Fathers after regaining freedom on 05/07/2022 met with the acting Governor of Edo state, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Philip Shuaibu at the Edo State Government house in Benin City.

“You would recall that on the 02/07/2022 at about 2045hrs, the Rev Fathers were kidnapped between Ehor and Iruekpen communities while returning to Uromi by unknown kidnappers.”
