Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) alongside Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general elections, has urged Nigerians to follow him on TikTok for updates on his activities.Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State, made the appeal in a post on his official X account, announcing his presence on the video-sharing platform.
“I am on TikTok! I encourage you all to follow me there for authentic information, the latest updates, and exclusive contents directly related to my daily life. Nigeria will be OK. – RMK,” he wrote.
His appeal comes amid growing political discussions about the influence of social media on the 2027 presidential election, particularly the online popularity of opposition figures such as Obi and Kwankwaso.
Both politicians have attracted considerable attention on social media, where their supporters regularly share campaign messages, criticise President Bola Tinubu’s administration and mobilise support for their political ambitions.
However, the extent to which online popularity can translate into votes remains a subject of debate.
Kwankwaso, meanwhile, has maintained a political base associated with his Kwankwasiyya movement, particularly in Kano State.
His move to TikTok could provide another platform for the Obi-Kwankwaso alliance to communicate with supporters and reach younger Nigerians as preparations for the 2027 elections gather pace.
SaharaReporters had earlier reported that Obi joined a TikTok livestream to interact with his supporters, during which he urged Nigerians not to vote for him because of his ethnic background but to assess him and other candidates based on their competence and capacity to lead.
The former Anambra State governor said Nigerians should judge political candidates by their qualifications and ability to perform in office rather than ethnicity, regional affiliations or sentiments about whose turn it is to become president.
