…Calls for peaceful election in 2019
Great Benin King, Oba Ewuare II, has told Nigeria’s Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki that the traditional rulers in Benin Kingdom are uncomfortable and worried about the crisis in the National Assembly.
The Benin Monarch who stated this when Senator Bukola Saraki paid him a courtesy visit in his Palace during the week said the people expect more from the Federal legislators, and urged the Senate President to use his good offices to ensure peace and order in the National Assembly.
The Omo N’Oba advised the Senate President to ensure that both the executive and legislature work together to bring the desired dividends of democracy to the people.
He called on political leaders to ensure that the 2019 general election is free, fair and peaceful, pointing out that whoever losses should regard it as victory for democracy, instead of promoting violence in the polity.
Oba Ewuare II said corruption and other crimes should be tackled from every angle in order to reduce it to the barest minimum.
The issue of restructuring, Oba Ewuare advised, should not be allowed to heat up the system, adding that it should be handled with caution and should not be taken to the height of conflict, as the country was more important than any other issues.
He reminded the senate President that the crown was not partisan, and that traditional rulers would continue to pray for God and the ancestors to provide the best leaders for the country, pointing out that the Palace would continue to provide a level playing ground for all politicians irrespective of political leaning.
Earlier, the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki told His Royal Majesty that he was in Benin City to meet with members of the Peoples Democracy Party (PDP) regarding his presidential ambition, and considered it very important to visit the Palace of the Oba of Benin to inform him of his ambition as well as seek Royal blessings.
