There had been widespread speculation that the President might replace his current deputy as part of political calculations ahead of the poll.
President Bola Tinubu has officially submitted the name of Senator Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
There had been widespread speculation that the President might replace his current deputy as part of political calculations ahead of the poll.
Shettima’s return had come under threat, particularly after some stakeholders within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), including those from the North-East, withheld their endorsement of him.
Those pushing for a change had also speculated that Tinubu could opt for a northern Christian as his vice-presidential candidate.
However, those speculations have now been put to rest, with arrangements being concluded for the formal announcement of Shettima’s nomination.
The President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, disclosed the development in a post on X.
He wrote: “About now, at the Continental Hotel, Abuja, President Tinubu submits INEC nomination form to the APC NWC as Sole Presidential Candidate for the 2027 Elections.
“President Bola Ahmad Tinubu has equally tapped Kashim Shettima, the current Vice President, Senator, as his running mate for vice president in the 2027 election.”
