Edo Journalists Mourn Fallen Colleague, Kingsley Uchegbu

Journalists in Edo State have been thrown into mourning following the death of their colleague, Kingsley Uchegbu who was a reporter with the Independent Television and Radio (ITV).

Uchegbu died on Wednesday after a brief illness.

Late Uchegbu, described by colleagues and associates as dedicated, humble and hardworking, was until his death a staff of ITV/Radio seconded to the Government House Press.

He is survived by his wife, children and aged mother.

Following his demise, Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has promised to support the bereaved family to cushion the effect of the loss of their breadwinner.

The governor made the pledge during a condolence visit to the residence of the deceased in Benin through a delegation led by the Chief of Staff, Hon. Yakubu Musa.

Speaking during the visit, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, said the state government would stand by the family and ensure they receive the needed support.

“Madam, we are sent here by the governor. We can assure you that we will not leave you alone in this. We will be part and parcel of the process that will give some succour to you and your children,” Afegbua said.

Speaking on behalf of the family, a church elder of Winners Chapel, Dr. Magnus Oshiogwe, appreciated the Edo State Government for the prompt condolence visit and concern shown to the bereaved family.

“Whatever the government can do to support this family, please do as it will go a long way to ease their pains,” he appealed.

Oshiogwe described the late Uchegbu as a committed church member whose death came as a painful shock to family members, colleagues and church associates.
