Emergency Responders Combat Fire Outbreak At Lagos SAPID Container Terminal

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), said it has responded swiftly to a fire outbreak at SAPID Container Terminal, Mile II, Lagos.

The Permanent Secretary, LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu disclosed this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday.

According to the statement, the incident occurred on Jan. 24, prompting the deployment of LASEMA’s Eagle Squad to the scene.

‘On arrival, emergency responders swiftly commenced containment operations, successfully preventing the fire from spreading to adjoining facilities.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire originated from a building located behind the SAPID Container Terminal, where several drums of chemicals and oils were stored,” the statement said.

The statement quoted the agency as attributing the probable cause of the fire outbreak to combustible materials.

The statement said that no casualties or loss of life were recorded, due to the prompt intervention of emergency agencies.

It noted that firefighting operations were intensified, as responders worked to fully extinguish the blaze and protect nearby structures.

The statement listed agencies currently on ground to include LASEMA’s Eagle Team from Cappa, Lagos State Fire Service, LRU Fire, and officers of the Nigeria Police.

It added that the situation remained under control, with continuous monitoring and response efforts in place.
