One worker sustained minor injuries after a five-storey building under construction partially collapsed on Durban Street, Wuse II, Abuja, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has said.
The incident adds to a series of building collapses reported in the Federal Capital Territory in recent months, including a three-storey building collapse in Wuse Zone 4 in September and another in Durumi 3 in May that claimed five lives.
NEMA said its Abuja Operations Office received an alert about Saturday’s incident at approximately 6:30 pm on October 17, 2026, prompting the activation of relevant emergency response agencies.
In a statement issued by its Press Unit, the agency said the FCT Fire Service was among the stakeholders mobilised, while its AYA Emergency Response Ambulance Bay team was deployed to coordinate search and rescue operations.
The agency said no life was lost in the incident and confirmed that the injured worker was evacuated to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
In September, a three-storey building collapsed in Wuse Zone 4, hours after officials of the FCT Administration’s Department of Development Control had sealed the property and directed occupants to vacate it.
The police said preliminary investigations indicated that the building had earlier been marked and sealed, while rescue operations were launched at the scene.
In August, two residents were rescued after part of a one-storey residential building comprising six blocks of flats collapsed in Kubwa 2/2. The victims were taken to Kubwa General Hospital in stable condition.
Earlier in May, a three-storey building under construction collapsed in Durumi 3, near Gudu Market, killing five people. Fifteen people were pulled from the rubble, with nine rescued alive and one reported to be in critical condition.
Following the incident, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike ordered a full-scale investigation and warned developers to comply with building standards and allow government officials to inspect construction sites.
