Iyamu Pledges To Strengthen School Security, Sponsor Bills On Healthcare, Education, Youth Empowerment

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Oredo Federal Constituency in the 2027 general election, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, has pledged to strengthen school security and sponsor bills to improve healthcare, education, and youth and women’s empowerment if elected.

He said effective representation must go beyond campaign promises, stressing the need for practical legislation that addresses the needs of constituents and protects vulnerable groups.

Dr. Iyamu made the pledge during a visit to the Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, in Benin City, Tuesday, where Oredo APC Chairman, Osamudiamen Osarenkhoe, led party leaders and candidates to introduce the party’s flag bearers to journalists.

According to the former Edo State Commissioner for Education, his legislative agenda would focus on tackling poverty, improving living conditions and expanding opportunities for residents.

Dr. Iyamu expressed confidence that his public service experience and connections in Abuja would help him attract federal projects to Oredo.

He cited his role in facilitating the construction and commissioning of approximately 6.2 kilometres of internal roads at a state-owned polytechnic.

On education, Dr. Iyamu claimed that nearly 100 schools were reconstructed and remodelled within one year during his tenure, alongside improvements in classroom facilities and the provision of furniture.

The APC flagbearer for the House of Representatives 2027 election pledged to sponsor legislation to strengthen school security, citing his administration’s early interventions under the Safe Schools Initiative.

He also promised to support legislation and programmes to expand access to healthcare and improve residents’ well-being. On women’s empowerment, he said his foundation had supported women through various initiatives and pledged to pursue policies that would promote their economic independence and strengthen family livelihoods.

Addressing youth development, Dr. Iyamu called for greater investment in skills acquisition, entrepreneurship and job creation.

He cited partnerships facilitated during his tenure, including an agreement with Chinese counterparts that enabled some Edo youths to travel to China, and promised to pursue similar opportunities.

Dr. Iyamu said his ambition to represent Oredo was driven by a desire to translate his public service experience into tangible benefits for residents.

He urged voters to support his candidacy in 2027, promising people-oriented legislation and sustained efforts to attract development projects to the constituency.

The former Edo Commissioner for Edo maintained that effective representation must go beyond campaign rhetoric to delivering laws, policies and projects that address the needs of the people.
