AAU Lecturer Found Dead In Hotel Room After Engaging Sex Worker’s Service

A lecturer in the Department of Medical Laboratory Science at Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Matthew Uwuigbe, has been found dead in a hotel room after allegedly engaging the services of a 21-year-old sex worker.

The incident occurred in Ekpoma, headquarters of Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State, with the police receiving a report at about 8am on Monday, October 5, 2026.

Confirming the incident, the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said the hotel owner, manager and the sex worker had been arrested and detained for questioning as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the lecturer’s death.

ASP Ikoedem stated that Mathew Uwuigbe, believed to be in his 50s, had lodged at the hotel and engaged the services of the 21-year-old woman, whose identity is being withheld by this newspaper.

The lecturer reportedly sent her out to buy water, but when she returned, she allegedly found the lecturer lying motionless inside the hotel room.

The police spokesperson revealed further that the deceased’s remains had been deposited at a hospital mortuary for preservation, while investigation into the incident continues.
