AIG Zone 5, Dogo-garba Bows Out, Hails Edo, Delta Support In Crime Fight

Nigeria’s Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 5, AIG Salman Dogo-Garba, has retired from active service, attributing the successes recorded in the fight against crime in Edo and Delta states to the interventions and support of the two state governments.

Dogo-Garba stated this on Wednesday during his pull-out parade held at the Police Training School, Ogida, Benin City, where he formally bowed out of the Nigeria Police Force after a distinguished career.

The retiring AIG said the support provided by the governments of Edo and Delta had strengthened the capacity of the police to confront security challenges and sustain peace and order across the zone.

He particularly commended the Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and his Delta State counterpart, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, for their cooperation and timely interventions in the fight against crime.

“I also wish to sincerely appreciate the Executive Governors of Edo and Delta State, Your Excellencies, Senator Monday Okpebholo and Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, through their support, cooperation and timely interventions, we were better equipped to confront security challenges, strengthen public confidence, and maintain peace and order across Edo and Delta State.

“I also wish to express my gratitude and appreciation to the good people of Edo and Delta States, traditional institutions, religious bodies, community leaders, the media, civil society organisations, and all stakeholders whose cooperation significantly contributed to maintaining peace and public safety within the Zone. Security is a shared responsibility, and your partnership has been invaluable”, he said.

Dogo-Garba described his tenure as AIG Zone 5 as one of the greatest privileges of his policing career, saying the achievements recorded were products of collective efforts, teamwork and commitment by officers and men of the force.
AIG Dogo-Garba urged officers to wear the police uniform with pride and honour.

“To every officer still in service, I encourage you to wear the uniform with pride and honour. Let your conduct always reflect the core values of the Nigeria Police Force. Be courageous in the discharge of your duties, compassionate in dealing with members of the public, and resolute in protecting the lives and property of our citizens.

“Remember that the true legacy of an officer is measured not by rank, but by character, integrity, and the positive impact made on society,” he stated.

The retired police chief also acknowledged the contributions of traditional rulers, community leaders, religious bodies, the media and other stakeholders, stressing that security remained a shared responsibility.

Dogo-Garba, who said he was leaving with cherished memories and a sense of fulfilment, pledged to continue supporting initiatives aimed at promoting peace, justice and national development even after his retirement from active policing.

The ceremony was attended by heads of sister security agencies, as well as traditional and religious leaders from Edo and Delta states.
