Abdul Oroh Declares NASS Comeback, Secures APC Endorsement In Owan

Veteran Journalist and former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abdul Oroh, has declared his intention to return to the National Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections, receiving unanimous endorsement from leaders of the All Progressives Congress in Owan Federal Constituency.

Oroh, a pro-democracy activist who represented the constituency between 2003 and 2007, was endorsed by party leaders across the 22 wards that make up the constituency during a well-attended declaration event.

The motion for his endorsement was moved by Chief Alidu Ovbiotse and seconded by Isekhemen Francis Ozoya, with party stakeholders urging other aspirants to step down and support his candidacy.

The leaders described Oroh as a tested politician who performed credibly during his previous tenure, noting that his return would strengthen legislative representation and accelerate development in the constituency.

They also recalled his role as a pro-democracy activist during the military era, during which he was reportedly detained for advocating civilian rule, adding that his contributions helped place Owan on the global map.

According to them, his previous tenure attracted employment opportunities for indigenes, promoted youth and women empowerment, and improved infrastructure in critical sectors such as education and healthcare.

Speaking at the event, Oroh said his decision to re-contest was driven by the need to address pressing challenges facing the constituency, including insecurity, poor infrastructure, and economic hardship.

“Our people are living in fear. We need a strong and firm voice to mobilise support for efforts to tackle insecurity and restore confidence in governance,” he said.

He pledged to support the Federal Government in combating terrorism, banditry, and other security threats, while also advocating for the establishment of state police to enhance local security.

The aspirant further decried the persistent power outage in the constituency, attributing it to poor service delivery by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, and vowed to push for improved electricity supply.

On economic development, Oroh promised to revitalize agriculture by promoting cash crops such as cocoa, cashew, and oil palm, as well as creating jobs through partnerships with the private sector.

He also outlined plans to promote free primary healthcare for mothers and children, provide social welfare for the elderly, and ensure free and compulsory basic and secondary education.

Oroh added that he would champion transparency, accountability, and local government autonomy, while aligning with the “Renewed Hope” agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and supporting the Edo State Government under Monday Okpebholo.

He appealed to party members and constituents to support his ambition to secure the APC ticket and represent Owan Federal Constituency once again in the House of Representatives.

“I will do better than before and ensure that ongoing federal projects in our constituency are completed,” Hon. Oroh assured.
