Edo Medical Doctor Arrested After Woman Dies During Surgical Procedure

BY MIKE OSAROGIAGBON

A medical doctor has been arrested following the death of a woman during surgical procedure at a private hospital in Uromi, the administrative headquarters of Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria.

Police identified the doctor as Festus Ogheghele of Dickson Medical Centre, Uromi. He allegedly performed a Caesarean section on the victim, Mrs. Susan Omoye Okporan, 36, on August 2, 2025.

The woman reportedly developed complications and died shortly after the procedure, though her baby survived.

Her bereaved family members accused the doctor of gross professional negligence, which prompted a police investigation.

Contacted, the Edo State Police Command spokesman, CSP Moses Joel Yamu confirmed the arrest, as detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
