Mission To Kill Uncle: How Edo Police Stopped Anambra-bound Gunman

Operatives of Edo State police Command have intercepted a Lagos-based businessman with a fully loaded English-made pistol meant to kill his uncle in Anambra State.

Police said the suspect, Francis Obinna Okoye, 22 was travelling from Lagos to Anambra State to assassinate his paternal uncle, one Mr. Paul Okoye when police on stop-and-search operation intercepted the commercial bus he was on along Benin-Lagos expressway by Ovia River, about 2:30am on Sunday, April 7, 2024.

It was further said that a search conducted on the vehicle and some of its passengers revealed nine rounds of live ammunition, English-made pistol and a POS machine all concealed in a cross bag he hung across his shoulder.

The Public Relations Officer for Edo State Police Command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor stated this while parading the suspect before journalists at state police Command headquarters in Benin City, today.

Nwabuzor said the suspect secured the gun to avenge the death of his father after his aunt informed him that the said uncle, Mr. Paul Okoye used charms to kill his father, this year.

“…the idea of this pistol is to avenge his own father’s death accusing one of his uncles by name Paul Okoye that he killed his father”, SP Nwabuzor stated.

He further said that investigation has revealed that the suspect’s claim on who gave him the gun is false as he will be processed to court soon.

The suspect, Francis Obinna Okoye who claimed to be a head seller in Lagos admitted that the gun was found in his bag but denied ownership of it.

“The gun was found with me but I am not the owner of the gun. My friend Kelvin gave me the gun so I was taken it to Anambra State to threaten my uncle who my aunt, Amarachi told me has a hand in what killed my father. The POS machine is mine. I registered it with my store name.

“I explained to Kelvin what they told me killed my dad and I was going to attend burial in the east so he gave me the gun to use it to question my uncle if actually he has a hand in what killed my father. My father had stroke and died. I am his first son”, the suspect narrated.
