Edo LGA Poll: Police Assure Adequate Security

Benin City, Edo, Nigeria – Edo State Police Command has assured adequate security of lives and property during and after the local government council poll holding on Saturday, September 2, 2023.

The command says it is collaborating with other Sister Security agencies operating in the state to ensure a peaceful election throughout the 4,519 polling units across the 192 wards in the 18 local government areas of Edo State. 

The Public Relations Officer for the state command SP Chidi Nwabuzor stated this in a statement made available to journalists in Benin City, today. 

“The Command has deployed adequately its officers and men in collaboration with other Sister Security agencies to ensure a peaceful election. 

“ln view of the above, the general public is by this press release to note the following; only eligible voters will be allowed at the polling units, only agents who are screened and identified by the EDSIEC will be allowed at the Polling Units, no weapon of any kind is allowed at the voting arena, nobody or any party representatives will be allowed at Polling Units with Political Party Logo or any form of Political Party identification, all forms of loitering will not be allowed at the Polling Units”, it reads in parts. 

While expressing police commitment towards the defense of democracy, the command urged electorates to go out to vote as the police would remain apolitical and professional before, during and after the exercise.

“Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed A. Dankwara, FBDFM, FCIMN wishes the good people of Edo State a free, fair, credible, and peaceful L.G. elections while urging them to remain law-abiding citizens, before, during, and after the elections. 

“The CP reassures them of the Command’s unalloyed commitment towards being professional, apolitical, neutral, and very thorough in the discharge of their duties. He vows to defend the nation’s democracy at all times, as it remains the statutory duty of the Nigeria Police Force, being the lead agency for internal security, arrest, and prosecute electoral offenders”, the statement said.
