Houston, Texas – Premier Edo organization in the Diaspora, Edo National Association Worldwide (ENAW), begins its 25th annual convention today in Houston Texas, with an impending change of guards.
Dr. Agharese Aikpehiomwan Osifo of the Department of Agricultural Economics & Extension, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State will deliver the keynote address: AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT IN EDO STATE; A NECESSITY FOR GROWTH on Saturday September 3, 2016, the official opening day of the convention.
This year’s convention is being hosted by the Bini Club of Houston, Texas.
Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole may spring surprise, against speculations that he would not attend the convention due to his commitment to electioneering campaign in Edo State.
Sources close to the State House told Alltimepost.com that the governor neither told anyone that he would not come nor designate anyone to represent him at the convention, leaving tongues wagging about his plan.
One thing is certain, according to a government source, “he does not want to be represented.” Alltimepost.com can confirm that as at 3:30pm Nigerian time today, Oshiomhole was still in his office at the Denis Osadebey Avenue, Benin City.
The source said it is not impossible for the Governor to fly into Houston on Saturday morning, show up at, address the convention and leave for Nigeria the same day.
Change of Guards
During the convention, which ends on Monday September 5, 2016, former President of the Bini Club of Houston, Mr. Edison Oyiboke-Osifo will take the oath of office as the new National Present of the organization, along with several others in different capacities.
The swearing-in ceremony is part of the activities marking the convention, holding at the Westchase Marriott, Houston Texas in the United States of America.
Oyiboke, who in April 2016 emerged the newly elected president, is coming into office with the promise of leadership of inclusiveness, unity and diversity.
His election in April was part of the activities of the organization’s Council of Presidents’ meeting – a prelude to the annual convention.
Others to be sworn in as members of the incoming executive, include Mr. Martins Idemudia, Chairman, ENAW Council of Presidents; Mr. Friday Enoye Treasurer and Mrs. Stella Ejedawe, who was re-elected as Women Affairs Coordinator.
Mr. Oyiboke will succeed Elder Franklin Omoruna, while Mr. Martins Idemudia succeeds Barrister Dickson Iyawe, as Chairman, Council of Presidents.
Omoruna and Iyawe held the positions for 4 years of two-year term, popularly known to have ushered in an era of tremendous and unprecedented progress, new innovations/developments, peace and unity.
Oyiboke’s deputy is a Detroit-based entrepreneur and humanitarian, Engr. Bose Ogbeifun, who will also be sworn in during the organization’s historic occasion. By her swearing in, she will succeed Mrs. Katie Salami as Vice President of the organization.
Also to be sworn in, are the following officers who were returned unopposed in the April election which was described as very peaceful and democratic: Prince Victor Ehue, Secretary; Mr. Osagie Igbinosun, Financial Secretary and Mr. Romeo Omigie, Cultural Director.
The ceremony would be witnessed by Edo people from different parts of the globe, many of whom already arrived in Houston on Thursday, ahead of the convention’s commencement date.
