Red Day For Benin Electricity Distribution Company

By Osaze Prince Edigin

The people of Edo, Delta, Ondo and Ekiti state led by Edo Civil Society Organizations entered a new dimension in the struggle against the Benin Electricity Distribution Company on Thursday.

It is ENOUGH IS ENOUGH for BEDC in the four states they cover, we have resolved to continually engage them everywhere they are found.

All the communities represented were handed the requisite materials to be able to put BEDC to flight.

Guerilla warfare has been declared, protest is outdated in the fight against BEDC as submitted by the wise men and strategists of Edo Civil Society Organizations. Our actions are going to be silent but surely bring BEDC to its knees.

The basis of bringing the four states together in Benin City is to expose to the people what they need to know in order to engage officials of BEDC in their various domains.

It is no longer the fight for the civil society alone but a collective one where every single citizen can defend himself/herself of the numerous exploitative tendencies of BEDC.

They should know about the Court Order restraining BEDC and the 11 DISCOs across the country from increasing tariff which was disregarded, the people are to also be aware of the various customers rights like the issues of meters which are supposed to be given to customers free.

The new tariff is illegal as far we are concerned, we are more worried of the use of police and military personnel by BEDC in collecting the illegal tariff from customers.

Edo Civil Society Organizations has vowed to ensure that customers under BEDC network will not pay the illegal tariff imposed on them.
