Edo Guber Race 2016: Nigeria Police Reach Deal With Stakeholders

Edo State Police Commissioner, Mr. Chris Ezike has reached an agreement with political stakeholders in the state to shun the use of violence in the forth-coming governorship election on September 10, 2016.

Agreement to this effect was reached at a one day security meeting convened by the State Police Command in Benin City, Edo State last Thursday.

Edo State Police Commissioner, Mr. Ezike addressing paticipants at the stakeholders meeting, sponsored by the State Police Command ahead of the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state.Amongst the ten-point agreement reached at the forum attended by Chairmen and Secretaries of 20 political parties and heads of the various security agencies was the consensus that the forthcoming governorship election in the state should be used as a model for credible and fair election in any other part of the country.

Also at the gathering were the Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Sam Olumekun and some governorship aspirants representing different political parties in the state.

The stakeholders who recognized the fact that the soon-to-be conducted governorship election in Edo State would be driven by intra and inter party interest agreed to however regulate their conducts before, during and after the election.

This is to ensure that the exercise does not snowball into a breakdown of law and order, such as violence and other unwholesome acts.

At the meeting, Mr. Chris Ezike, also assured participants that the Nigeria Police and other security agencies were ready to enforce the law by bringing electoral offenders to justice.

The police and other security agencies taking part in the forthcoming governorship election were also urged by the participants at the security meeting to be neutral in their roles.
