The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas (NUPENG) and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), have called off their strike early this (Thursday) morning.
The Group Executive Councils of both union, PENGASSAN and NUPENG, agreed to call off the strike after an all night meeting the Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the Minister of State for Petroleum Mr Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu.
The two unions leaders after addressing a press conference late Wednesday evening, directed all its members to proceed on indefinite strike due to the pronouncement of the minister of state on the unbundling of NNPC.
But Kachikwu, after the union leaders’ action later came out to explain his decision not to be unbundling of NNPC but mere “restructuring and reorganisation” of the corporation.
The Group Chairman, NNPC PENGASSAN, Comrade Saleh Abdullahi, said through a telephone conversation Thursday morning that the unions have directed their members to go back to work.
He said the minister had met with them, adding that the meeting started late Wednesday night and ended early thurday morning.
However, Comrade Saleh did not give the details of the outcome of the meeting, “until all the issues are tidy up.”
The minister of state had assured Nigerians that the government would meet the workers and resolve the grey areas with all stakeholders.
