Imasuen Receives Award From Student Union … Emphasizes Hardwork, Steadfastness As Critical To Success

Film Director and producer of award winning and globally acclaimed epic movie, Invasion 1897, Mr. Lanclot Oduwa Imasuen has advised Students of Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma to remain focused and work hard to be the best in their chosen fields.

He gave the advice while speaking to members of the National Union of Benin Students, Ambrose Ali University chapter after he was presented with an award of excellence by the student body recently in Benin City.

The award was in recognition of his selfless service to the promotion of Benin culture and heritage, using motion picture as a platform.

Mr. Imasuen said he was speaking from experience of knowing that hard work pays, as according to him, it was the reason for his huge success.

The event which took place at the Meridian Lodge, GRA, and Benin City attracted several students of the institution who are of Benin origin.

He said it took him hadwork, passion, steadfastness, doggedness and perseverance to achieve enormous success, coming from a very long journey.

“I started acting in secondary school,” he recalled. Mr. Imasuen told the students to pursue their dreams with passion in their chosen professions as he had done and that success would follow.

He expressed appreciation for the award and said he felt humbled, honored and encouraged by the gestures, knowing that his contribution to the industry continues to attract awards from around the world.

According to him, of all the awards he has received that of the Benin Monarch, Oba Erediauwa came first and that he was most grateful to the His royal Majesty for his support.

Mr. Imasuen told them of the need to promote the Benin culture and interest and pledged his support to the organization in its endeavor.

Earlier in his speech, the president of the Association, Mr. Osazee Igiogbe said the award was presented in recognition of Imasuen’s enormous contribution to the film industry and the promotion of Benin arts and culture.

He introduce his organization as one established to promote Benin culture and traditions and the advancement of students of Benin extraction. The organization he said was a responsible body whose members do not belong to cults.

He said the organization had followed Imasuen’s achievements over the years with reference to his record-breaking movie, Invasion 1897 and remarked that his works have promoted the Edo people and endeared him to many as a role model.

Part of the organization’s activities he hinted was involvement in educational programs and enlightenment on issues of importance through public lectures.

Among members of the organization present at the award ceremony were the Secretary-General, Mr. Aiworo Osahon; Vice President Edomahenotu Deborah Eseosa; Assistant Financial Secretary, Obazee Osazenaga Martins. Among the ex-student members of the organization present was Precious Osasu, a historian.
