Release Ex-Chairman of Edo Nigerian Medical Association, ANEEJ demands

October, 19th 2015, Benin City…The Africa Network for Environment & Economic Justice, ANEEJ, has received the news of the abduction of Dr. Philip Ugbodaga, former chairman of the Edo State Chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, at a medical outreach in Imo State with shock and disbelief.

ANEEJ notes that incidences of abduction and kidnap of prominent and well-meaning Nigerians is suddenly becoming the order of the day.

‘We are at a loss at why a humane and peace-loving individual in the person of Dr. Ugbodaga should be victim of a specter that is quickly becoming societal menace.

We are worried that if urgent action is not taken to stem this tide, it will become an ill-wind that will not blow anyone in Nigeria well’, David Ugolor, ANEEJ executive director has said.

ANEEJ therefore urges Dr. Philip Ugbodaga’s kidnappers to release him unconditionally. Dr. Philip was involved a humanitarian cause for which he should not be rewarded with something as harrowing as being abducted.

The Police High Command must wade into this incident and work to bring Dr. Ugbodaga back to his family and friends safely.

ABOUT ANEEJ: To contribute to the emergence of a just and equitable African society through socio-economic and environmental rights protection, institutional strengthening and people’s empowerment.
