MassDOT Cancels Closure Notice For I-195 East-Westbound On-Ramp

Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has canceled the closure notice of Route I -195 east and westbound on-ramp from the new Water Street Connector and Route 79/Broadway northbound earlier scheduled for Saturday January 24, 2015. The cancellation is due to the weather forecast for this weekend.

Work on the project was originally scheduled for Saturday, January 24 from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

In a press release issued on Thursday, the state Transportation Department said it would

Provide advance notice when the closure has been rescheduled and that it was necessary to demolish the Exit 5 ramp above the I-195 on-ramps.

“Local access to area attractions and abutting properties will be maintained at all times.  All businesses are open. Motorists should follow the Battleship Cove Area signage for access to the waterfront.”

MassDOT encourages drivers to seek alternate routes to avoid delays. Drivers who must travel through the affected area should expect delays and should reduce speed and use caution while approaching and traveling through the work zone, the statement added.

The schedule for this major infrastructure project, according to MassDOT, is weather dependent and subject to change without notice.
