Edo Govt. Expels Igbinedion University Students

By Alltimepost.com

As fallout from the impasse between Edo State Government and Igbinedion University over the alleged breach of Memorandum of Understanding by the latter, Governor Adams Oshiomhole issued an executive order today, stopping the nursing students of the ivory tower from making use of the facilities of the state-owned Benin Central Hospital and the Stella Obasanjo Hospital.

It would be recalled that the State Government had earlier in the week terminated an agreement to train medical students of the University at its specialist hospitals over alleged unpaid debts, totaling N350 million.

In a press statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Peter Okhiria today, the government said: “As part of the ongoing audit to rid the system of parasites feasting on the patrimony of Edo people, the Governor of Edo State, Wednesday, issued an executive order stopping the nursing students of Igbinedion University, Okada from making use of the facilities of the state-owned Benin Central Hospital and the Stella Obasanjo Hospital.

Students of the School of Nursing affiliated to the Igbinedion University have been enjoying the use of government hospitals free of charge over the years even when they pay their fees to the Igbinedion University.”
