You and Your Thoughts!

DR. ISIBOR'S PICTURE

By Dr. Jonathan Isibor.

It has become glaringly evident in recent times that the world as a single human constituency requires metaphysical, spiritual, physical, psychological and economic healing.

The various nations of the world, advanced and developing, bear the brunt of human frailties and fragrant abuse of individual and collective rights.

All hopes are not lost, though, as reflective thoughts on the purpose of life on earth, response to intuitive inner promptings, or shall we say, “listening to the Master’s voice from within” can help redirect man’s footsteps from the ‘forest of errors’ towards the “Mastery of life”; the goal of all mortal beings.

In the series of articles to follow in this column which I have christened “Whisperings of the Ages”, I intend to examine some of life’s activities which appreciation and understanding can re-define our life’s purpose and reshape our destiny. My discourse for this maiden edition is “YOU AND YOUR THOUGHTS”.

As humans, everyday affords us an opportunity not only to reflect on our past life’s activities, but also to plan or create a successful future for ourselves, knowing fully well that the unexamined life is not worth living!
It must be noted, however, that in order to live a successful and well-planned life, physical efforts alone are insufficient. Centuries ago, at the temple of Apollo at Delphi, was inscribed the Socratic dictum: “Know thyself”.
We surely need to know ourselves, listen to the Master within, so as to have self-mastery over the affairs of our daily life and our immediate environment.

Every one of us requires good living; excellent health, good finances, good shelter, successful family life, peace, and contentment.

Not all however successfully achieve these goals, due to amongst other reasons, the lack of an appropriate technique.
We must operate superior cosmic laws or principles in our daily affairs. I have come to a personal conviction and conclusion that one of the metaphysical means by which man can create a successful life is to employ the faculty of constructive thinking, i.e. activating your thought pattern, and proper visualization. Yes, some may rush to the conclusion ‘we have heard this over and over before’!

There is no doubt, whatsoever, that these principles have been mentioned so many times, so much so that they appear common – place. But before anyone dismisses this with a wave of the hand, we need to address some pertinent questions to ourselves.

Firstly, how regular do we generate or harbor sustained good thoughts of ourselves and others?
Secondly, do we consciously, regularly and faithfully engage in visualizing that which we really
desire in life? Thirdly, are our desires honest enough and morally and spiritually genuine? In
order words; are our desires within the bounds of natural justice and sound judgment?
And lastly, do we have absolute confidence in the operations of natural laws and metaphysical principles or do we just engage them with a trial and error frame of mind?

In het engineering sciences man has made tremendous progress in electronics/robotic/computer engineering to the extent that one could for instance, pre-set a table clock in order to activate the alarm system at a pre – determined time! We do know that at the mere touch of a knob on a remote control device, we are able to select the different programs or channels on our TV set from our convenient sitting positions.

If man can create these, including very delicate military manouvres and space explorations with admirable precision, why then would anyone expect anything less from the working of natural and spiritual laws meant for our use? Chapter 1, verse 26 of the Christian Bible tells us that “God has given authority to man to have dominion over the entire earth and all therein”. The logical corollary from this is that we can conveniently and confidently create our desired state in advance. The greatest power in the universe with which one can create the type of life one desires rests inside of us. Each of us possesses a magnetic power and this power is emitted through our thoughts.

One of the sages has remarked that “a thought visualized and objectified in the mind and fixed there through concentration establishes a vital, living thing which radiates itself in the form of a creative power, carrying with it the nature or form of thing thus vitalized and objectified. Thus, for example, holding the thought of joy and happiness causes a crystallization of that thought in the mind which radiates into space as a power, or energy, carrying with it the vibrations of joy and happiness. These vibrations will reach and affect persons and things around us. On the other hand the thought of pain and suffering, if held in the mind and crystallized there through concentration, will radiate into the body vibrations carrying the sensation of pain and suffering”.

It has been conceded that man alone, of all creatures has within his being creative powers which are part of the God consciousness, thus man is uniquely endowed. He has the rare privilege and ability to concentrate and create mentally that which he desire to create eventually in material form. This creative power in man is part of the creative energy which God breathed into space when the first word was spoken and order came out of chaos. Therefore, in order to create a successful life for the future months and years ahead, we should be ready to use this power to create order out of any chaotic situations in our life. Your thought is your tool.

As has been expressed by Raymond Bernard, “each person is the reflection of his thoughts, and his life, his happiness and his actions are the result of them”. John Assaraf, an international bestselling author and business consultant once said: “Our job as humans is to hold on to the thoughts of what we want, make it absolutely clear in our minds what we want, and from that we start to invoke one of the greatest laws in the universe, and that’s the law of attraction”. Your life now is a reflection of your past thoughts. What one is thinking now is creating his future life. We need to appreciate the fact that thoughts are magnetic, and have a frequency. As you think, those thoughts are transmitted out into the universe, and they magnetically attract all like things that are on the same frequency. Everything sent out returns to the source. And that source is you!

Whatsoever you sow, you reap! Your thoughts are seeds, and the harvest you reap will surely depend on the seeds you plant. Your life is in your hands. No matter what has happened in your life, you can begin to consciously choose your life. Decide right now that you are going to think only good thoughts. This means that you will no longer speak evil or unkind words or make negative pronouncements about yourself, your children, your acquaintances and indeed the community you live in. Negative thoughts and stress have been shown to seriously degrade the body and the functioning of the brain, because it’s our thoughts and emotions that are continuously reassembling, reorganizing, and recreating our body.

The ability to channel our powerful positive thoughts into creative use would require the practical use of the process of visualization. To visualize means “to see inwardly”. The reason visualization is so powerful is because as you create pictures in your mind of seeing yourself with what it is you want, you are generating thoughts and feelings of having it already. After your mental creation or visualization, and without unnecessary anxiety on your part, watch out and follow your hunches and instincts. It’s the universe inspiring you. The universe always knows the fastest, most harmonious way your dreams can be realized. However, any thought of doubt entering one’s mind at this stage of the process can be counterproductive. So, the moment a thought of doubt creeps in, quickly dismiss it and replace it with the thought of your desired goal. That is the way forward!

Genevieve Behrend, one of the early teachers of spiritual metaphysics, once remarked, that “Noting can prevent your picture from coming into concrete form except the same power which gave it birth – yourself”. While paying tribute to her grandfather recently, Nandi Mandela said that her father Nelson Mandela always counseled his children that “it is within the reach of everyone to become what he wants in life”. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, in the days of his struggles advised his admirers and co-travelers to always “take the first step in faith; you don’t have to see the whole staircase. Just take the first step”.

So far in this discourse, I have tried to emphasize that with the aid of our thoughts we can visualize ourselves attaining a better standard of life we cherish, and by the law of attraction, what we have visualized is achieved. In ending this discourse, I would like us to contemplate the reassuring words of Dr. Harvey Spencer Lewis: “All things which materialize on this earth as blessings for man and contributions to his essential needs were alchemically created in the cosmic before their existence was projected into material form on this earth plane. All the obstacles in life which men and women look upon as mountainous barriers to the goal of life are fictitious things, and often figments of the imagination that still reside in the minds of men and women as an inheritance from the primitive stages of existence.

There is a trite saying that one should never cross a bridge until one comes to it, and I have found that the average man or woman who hesitates in venturing along the path of success is not only trying to cross a bridge that is far in the distance, but is making of that bridge a greater structure and a greater test of endurance that is warranted by the actual facts. The divine self of man knows neither disease nor death, failure nor discouragement. He must let the God consciousness of his soul control and direct the health and activities of the physical body so that it may truly be the servant unto him, and not a master whipping him into submission and earthly servility. In this way will man rise to power and glory and attain the highest degree of success and happiness in all of the affairs of the home and of the business world”.
