The Executive Chairman of the Board, Dr. Maureen Ekhoragbon, led secondary school teachers and other state actors on a road show to sensitise parents, guardians, and students on the need for adequate preparation ahead of school resumption on Monday, September 8, 2025.

Dr. Ekhoragbon explained that the campaign was being carried out across the three senatorial districts of the state, stressing that prompt resumption would guarantee academic success.

According to her, early resumption in a new academic session encourages improved grades, development of a strong work ethic, and helps students set clear learning goals and achievements in specific subjects.

She assured that teachers were fully prepared to engage students in activities that would foster a positive school environment, strengthen access to quality education, and improve the overall education system.

The SSEB Chairman urged parents to take advantage of the free education offered by the state government to ensure that their children and wards are properly educated.

She reiterated the government’s position on punitive measures for truancy, warning that “if any child in Edo is seen hawking during school hours, disciplinary action will be taken against the parents”

Dr. Ekhoragbon also revealed that many parents, particularly in Edo Central, had indicated their willingness to withdraw their children from private schools to enroll them in public schools because of the benefits they stand to gain.

She commended the State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Paddy Iyamu, for newly introduced education policies, especially the ban on graduation ceremonies and the textbooks reuse policy.

“All we are doing is in line with the vision of the Governor, who is prioritising education and revamping schools in Edo State,” she said, adding that she appreciated stakeholders in the education ecosystem who partnered with SSEB on the Clean and Shine initiative as part of their corporate social responsibility.

Meanwhile, some market women at Ekiosa Market expressed appreciation to the Okpebholo-led administration and pledged their commitment to ensuring that their children resume school on the stipulated date.

They particularly lauded the textbooks reuse policy, noting that it would save them significant costs.
