Police Inspector Among Suspects Arrested For Armed Robbery In Edo

Edo State Police Command said it has arrested one Ojo Oloruntobi a serving police inspector for alleged involvement in armed robbery, extortion and brutality in Benin City. 

Also apprehended along with him as accomplices are three civilians whose names were given as Charles Onah, Joseph Ohis and Enoma Agho.

According to a statement by the Command’s spokesman CSP Moses Joel Yamu the suspects were apprehended on Friday, August 15, 2025, following a viral video in which a victim claimed he was abducted by policemen, dispossessed of his phone and other belongings, and subjected to intimidation.

It further stated that acting on the report, the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika ordered operatives of the Ugbowo Surveillance Team to track down the culprits as the team later intercepted the suspects with a silver-coloured Toyota Yaris and other incriminating items.

“A serving Police Inspector later identified as Ojo Oloruntobi was arrested alongside three civilian accomplices namely Charles Onah, Joseph Ohis and Enoma Agho, who had been collaborating with him to terrorise residents of the city through acts of extortion and harassment.

“The Edo State Police Command strongly condemns this shameful and criminal conduct. The arrested officer and his collaborators will face the full wrath of the law. CP Monday Agbonika has made it clear that there will be no hiding place for rogue elements within the Force, reiterating the Command’s zero tolerance for corruption, abuse of office, and unprofessional conduct,” the statement stated.

The Command also warned that any police officer found culpable of misconduct, extortion or brutality would be dismissed, arrested, and prosecuted in line with the laws of the land.

The statement urged members of the public particularly the victim in the viral video to come forward with credible information to assist investigators.
