Edo Man Advocates Adding Chief Anthony Enahoro’s Face On Nigerian Currency

By Idahosa Musa

A thirty-year-old Edo man, Michael Mate, has called on the Nigeria National Assembly to move the motion to add the face of the foremost Nigerian nationalist, late Chief Anthony Enahoro, on the nation’s currency.

He made the call while carrying out a solo protest in Benin, the Edo State capital on Monday

Mr. Mate said that the late Chief Enahoro, at his youthful age, moved the motion for the nation’s Independence.

“In 1953, Chief Anthony Enahoro was the youngest activist to raise the motion for Nigeria’s Independence.

“After many analyses in 1960, the parliament approved his motion. And many Nigerians and many academics regarded Chief Anthony Enahoro as the father of Independence.

“So, I Michael, I call on all men, women and children in Nigeria to support the motion that Chief Anthony Enahoro’s picture should be in the new Nigerian currency”, he said.

The graduate of Public Administration from Auchi Polytechnic, said the Late Nigerian nationalist’s legacy must be preserved for the generation unborn to learn from it.

Recall that late Chief Anthony Enahoro moved the motion for Nigeria’s self-government in the Western House of Assembly in 1953.

This motion paved the way for Nigeria’s independence, which was officially granted on October 1, 1960.
