This follows a brief ceremony held at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua Airport, where President Bola Tinubu received the remains of his immediate predecessor.

The event was attended by several high-ranking officials, including Vice President Kashim Shettima and the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila—both of whom had accompanied Buhari’s body from London back to Nigeria.

A large number of dignitaries have already arrived in Katsina ahead of the burial in Daura. Among them are former Vice Presidents Atiku Abubakar and Yemi Osinbajo; former Minister of Transportation and ex-Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi; and former Governors Aminu Bello Masari (Katsina), Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Yahaya Bello (Kogi), Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto), Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), and Ali Modu Sheriff (Borno), who also served as National Chairman of the PDP.

Other prominent figures in attendance include former Senate President Ahmad Lawan and former Minister of Women Affairs, Pauline Tallen.

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Niger, Ali Lamine, has also arrived in Katsina to attend the final rites.

An inter-ministerial committee has already been constituted to oversee the smooth coordination of the burial ceremony for the late leader.

The committee, chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, is charged with delivering a befitting state burial for the former leader, who died on Sunday.

According to a statement signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen, the committee comprises several key ministers and top security officials.

Buhari passed away in London on Sunday at approximately 4:30 p.m. after a prolonged illness. He previously ruled Nigeria as a military Head of State from 1984 to 1985, and later served two terms as a democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023.
