LPPMC Rebrands, Breaks Away From Labour Party To Chart Independent Progressive Path

In a move that signals a significant political shift, the group formerly known as the Labour Party Patriotic Members Congress (LPPMC) has officially rebranded itself as the Liberal Progressive & Patriotic Members Congress, while declaring its independence from the Labour Party.

The announcement was made in a public statement signed by Eld. Yusuf Solomon Danbaki, the National Secretary of the newly redefined body.

According to the statement, the name change represents more than a cosmetic adjustment.

It marks a reaffirmation of the group’s commitment to the principles of liberalism, progressivism, and patriotism values it claims have guided its operations over the years.

The revised name, LPPMC, now stands for an organisation that is “liberal in its respect for individual freedoms and social justice, progressive in its pursuit of reform and innovation, and patriotic in its unwavering love for Nigeria.”

The group has declared its intent to function as an independent political entity moving forward, aligning only with parties, individuals, or movements whose values are consistent with its own.

While it has not ruled out future collaboration with the Labour Party, it has made clear that any partnership would be contingent upon the party returning to its founding ideals, which LPPMC argues have eroded over time.

“Our principles are non-negotiable,” the statement asserted, quoting the National Coordinator, Dr. Kingsley Okundaye, who in a recent press briefing stressed the LPPMC’s resolve to promote an equitable, united, and innovative society.

This development is likely to reshape the dynamics within the broader Obidient Movement and the Labour Party, especially as the political landscape ahead of future elections continues to evolve.

The LPPMC called on its members, sympathisers, and the general public to remain steadfast in their support as it enters what it describes as a “new chapter” of political engagement rooted in democratic accountability, transparency, and national unity.
