Police, Education Ministry Collaborate To Secure Schools In Edo Ahead Of Resumption

With primary and secondary schools in Edo State expected to resume the 2026/2027 academic session on Monday, September 14, 2026, the Police Command and the Ministry of Education have intensified collaboration to strengthen security across schools.

The renewed security partnership followed a meeting between the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Patrick Daaor, and the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Osifo Washington, at the Command Headquarters, Benin City, on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Edo State Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

ASP Ikoedem said the meeting centred on the activation and strengthening of the Safe Schools Operations across the state ahead of the resumption of academic activities.

As part of the measures, Daaor directed the immediate dissemination of the official telephone numbers of all Divisional Police Officers and Area Commanders to schools within their respective jurisdictions.

The move, according to the Police, will give school authorities direct access to senior operational officers for prompt reporting of threats, real-time information sharing and rapid response to security emergencies.

She stated that the Police and the Ministry also agreed to constitute a joint enquiry and assessment team to visit schools across the state and identify security threats and vulnerabilities.

The team will subsequently recommend measures to close identified security gaps and strengthen the protection of students, teachers and other members of the school community.

ASP Ikoedem said the meeting ended with both institutions reaffirming their commitment to sustained partnership towards ensuring that Edo schools remain safe havens for teaching and learning.
