CAND Mourns The Passing Of Frontline Pan Africanist Ras Tom Dalgety

Members of the Confederation of African Nationals and Descendants (CAND) are mourning the passing of their dear comrade and frontline Pan Africanist, William “Ras Tom” Dalgety.

“Ras Tom” Dalgety who hailed from Guyana, recently joined his ancestors at the age of 86, according to a statement released on behalf of the organization by Dr. Plilip Idaewor on Monday.

In the statement titled: In Honour of Comrade William “Ras Tom” Dalgety, the organization said: “It is with absolute shock and deep sorrow that we mourn with Pan Africanists worldwide the passing of our dear brother and teacher, Comrade William “Ras Tom” Dalgety, who has transitioned to be with the ancestors.

“Comrade Dalgety’s passing further shrinks the rank of the old warriors of Pan African unity, liberation, and empowerment. His death indeed leaves a huge void in our midst at CAND, which will be difficult to fill.”

Guyana, the organization noted has lost a multi-disciplinary giant, and that the global African community has lost a fierce champion of the struggle.

Reflecting on his legacy, the organization said Comrade Tom’s life was defined by an unyielding dedication to the following areas of human endeavors:

Global African Reconnection:

He pioneered the popularisation of African history, television programming, and music in Guyana, constantly urging the diaspora to visit and reconnect with the homeland.

Economic Empowerment & Reparations:

He was a vocal advocate for land ownership, independent manufacturing, and true economic reparations for the centuries of dehumanisation faced by peoples of African ancestry.

Scientific & Cultural Leadership:

As a scientist, industrialist, author, and Rastafarian elder, he uniquely bridged the worlds of technical innovation and cultural heritage. His transition marks a defining moment in our history.

We extend our deepest solidarity and condolences to his family and comrades on the ground in Guyana.

May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire the struggle.
