A 52-year-old home lesson teacher, Daniel Erumudonmoh Okhuilegbe, has been remanded at Oko Correctional Centre, Benin City, over the alleged defilement of his 13-year-old pupil in Edo State.
Okhuilegbe was arrested on August 5 after allegedly abusing the trust placed in him as the child’s home lesson teacher. He was charged before the Benin High Court on August 14 and remanded in custody.
The Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Patrick Daaor, disclosed this on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, during his maiden press briefing in Benin City.
Daaor warned criminals and their collaborators to leave the state, declaring that the Command had been repositioned under his leadership to prevent crime and protect lives and property.
He vowed that no criminal activity recorded in the state would go unpunished, stressing that the police would intensify efforts to track down perpetrators and bring them to justice.
“Our approach is one of prevention, swift intervention, intelligence gathering, effective investigation and prosecution, while maintaining respect for the rights of all citizens”, CP Daaor said.
Also remanded is a 42-year-old father accused of allegedly defiling his 15-year-old daughter at Iyamho. He was charged to court on August 14 following investigation and remanded at the Benin Correctional Centre.
At Okhoro, 29-year-old Samson Amachie was arrested over the alleged defilement of an 11-year-old girl. Police said he allegedly lured the child to an uncompleted building behind his shop before assaulting her.
Amachie was subsequently arraigned before the Benin High Court and remanded at Oko Correctional Centre.
At Okpella, 26-year-old Otaru Jonathan was arrested over the alleged defilement of a 14-year-old girl. He allegedly took the child on a motorcycle to an uncompleted building at Afokpella, where the alleged offence occurred.
Meanwhile, 21-year-old Innocent Emmanuel was arrested at New Etete over the alleged sexual assault of an eight-year-old girl. The child was reportedly assaulted while her parents were away.
Police said the suspects are being investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law, while the affected children were referred for medical examination and necessary care.
