Osun Decides: INEC Begins Uploading Election Results

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun uploading results from the Osun State governorship election to its Result Viewing Portal (IReV), with 437 of the 3,763 expected polling unit results uploaded as of 4:12 p.m. on Saturday.

The Guardian observed on the commission’s election results portal that 437 results had been uploaded out of the 3,763 expected results, representing about 11.6 per cent of the total.

The portal’s result statistics showed that the upload process was ongoing, with the number expected to increase as polling units complete the transmission of their results.

INEC had earlier disclosed that results from all 3,763 polling units in the state would be uploaded directly to the IReV portal after voting, as part of measures to enhance transparency in the electoral process.

The 3,763 polling units are spread across 30 Local Government Areas and 332 Registration Areas/Wards in the state. INEC said the BVAS devices deployed for the election would also be used to transmit polling unit results to the public portal.

The Osun State governorship election is being contested by 15 political parties, following the late inclusion of the Social Democratic Party candidate, Francis Olugbenga Ajala, on the ballot after a Federal High Court judgment.

INEC subsequently reproduced the ballot papers and result sheets to accommodate the SDP candidate.

As of 4:12 p.m., 3,326 polling-unit results were yet to be uploaded, according to the figures displayed on the IReV portal.
