…pledges open-door policing to tackle crime

BENIN CITY — The new Commissioner of Police in Edo State, CP Patrick Daor, has pledged to adopt an open-door policing strategy to combat crime and strengthen public confidence in the state.

Daor also assured residents that every Edo citizen would be treated with respect by personnel of the state police command under his leadership.

The new CP stated this on Monday while assuming office from his predecessor, Monday Agbonika, who has been promoted to Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG, Zone 5.

Daor said his administration would intensify the command’s crime-fighting strategies by fine-tuning existing measures and building on the successes recorded by Agbonika.

He said: “More importantly, I will ensure that every policeman has respect for every citizen of this state. We will work towards winning more of the trust of the good people of this state. And we will maintain a very open-door policy.

“Everyone is welcome to contribute. I’m sure you are aware of the popular saying that policing is not just for the police alone. It’s for every one of us.

“Wherever there are issues that you think I should be informed of, please don’t hesitate. Let me know. And that issue will be handled with the utmost professionalism.”

The commissioner also said the command would operate as a highly mobile force capable of responding promptly to security challenges across the state.

“A command that is always moving, addressing every issue that has to do with the good people of the state,” he said.

Earlier, during the official handover ceremony, Agbonika said the command recorded a reduction in crime during his tenure.

He thanked officers and personnel of the command, religious leaders and the Edo State Government for their support during his tenure as commissioner.
