Kwara Governor Abdulrazaq Gifts Luxury Vehicles To Islamic Leaders Amid Rising Bandit Attacks

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has presented four luxury vehicles to the Chief Imam of Ilorin and other Islamic leaders in the Ilorin Emirate, even as parts of the state continue to grapple with deadly bandit attacks that have claimed lives and forced residents to flee their homes.

The governor delivered the vehicles at the Emir of Ilorin’s Palace, where a brand new Toyota Prado SUV was presented to the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Bashir Dasuki, alongside three other vehicles for senior clerics.

According to details of the presentation shared by the government in a statement on Wednesday, “among the four vehicles, a brand new Toyota Prado jeep was delivered to Chief Imam Sheikh Bashir Dasuki, one for the council of Ulama (a bus), one jeep for Imam Gambari, and one for Imam Imale respectively at the Emir’s palace.”

The latest donation came barely a week after the governor also procured and presented vehicles to the Kwara State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

The presentation has, however, drawn attention as communities in parts of Kwara State continue to battle worsening insecurity.

SaharaReporters could not independently confirm the exact amounts spent on the vehicles as of the time of filing this report as checks on the Kwara budget performance document failed to provide such insight.

SaharaReporters reported on Sunday that suspected bandits launched a deadly attack on Lata Nna community in Patigi Local Government Area, killing a woman, abducting another resident and leaving several others feared dead.

Residents who spoke to SaharaReporters said heavily armed assailants invaded the community, firing indiscriminately and forcing villagers to flee into nearby bushes and other safe locations to escape the attack.

The residents also lamented the absence of security personnel, accusing the authorities of failing to protect the community despite repeated appeals over persistent security threats.

One of the residents said, “Lata Nna is currently under attack right now by bandits.”

The assault occurred barely a day after another resident, Mohammed Abubakar Ndakpada Lata, was kidnapped by suspected bandits while returning from his farm.

According to the report, the abductors subsequently demanded ₦100 million as ransom for his release, further heightening fears among residents of Patigi Local Government Area over the deteriorating security situation.

The recurring attacks have left many communities living in fear, with residents repeatedly calling for increased deployment of security personnel and stronger government intervention to stem the wave of violence
