The Delta State Police Command has intensified a manhunt for 21-year-old Fejiro, who allegedly stabbed his younger brother, Joseph, to death following a dispute over a pair of bathroom slippers in Delta State.
The Command’s spokesman, SP Bright Edafe, that Alltimepost.com that the suspect remains on the run.
“The suspect is still on the run since last week. The killing is confirmed,” Edafe said.
Joseph, a 19-year-old 100-level university undergraduate, reportedly died after he was allegedly stabbed multiple times by his elder brother during the incident.
According to Edafe, the brothers initially quarrelled over the slippers, but neighbours intervened and separated them. However, they later resumed the fight behind their house, where Fejiro allegedly armed himself with a kitchen knife and repeatedly stabbed Joseph before fleeing.
The victim later succumbed to his injuries, while the suspect remains at large. Police said he will be charged with murder once apprehended.
Describing the incident as tragic, Edafe said the family had suffered a double tragedy of losing one son to death while the other now faces prosecution.
He dismissed speculation that the killing was spiritually motivated, saying preliminary findings point more to possible drug abuse or cult-related influence.
“It could be drug abuse or cultism. When he is arrested, he will have the opportunity to explain what happened,” he added.
The police spokesman also urged parents and guardians to pay closer attention to their children’s behavior, lamenting that a minor disagreement had escalated into a fatal confrontation.
