Niger Delta Leader Seeks Deeper Collaboration For Regional Growth, National Stability

A prominent Niger Delta investor, businessman and political leader, High Chief Peter Ojemen, has called for deeper collaboration among stakeholders in the Niger Delta region to drive economic growth, sustainable development and national stability.

Chief Ojemen made the call during a courtesy visit to the National Chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Ambassador Godknows Boladei Igali, where discussions centred on the future of the oil-rich region and its strategic role in Nigeria’s socio-economic development.

The meeting, which brought together key regional leaders, highlighted the urgent need for enhanced partnerships among political leaders, traditional institutions, investors and development stakeholders to unlock the vast economic potential of the Niger Delta and address lingering developmental challenges.

Speaking during the visit, Chief Ojemen said the engagement was aimed at fostering stronger cooperation among critical actors across the region in pursuit of peace, economic advancement, investment opportunities and greater regional integration.

According to him, sustained collaboration remains essential to creating an environment that will attract investments, stimulate job creation and improve the living conditions of millions of people in the Niger Delta.

“The purpose of the meeting is to ensure growing collaboration between key stakeholders across the Niger Delta region in pursuit of peace, economic development, investment opportunities and greater regional integration,” he stated.

He further urged PANDEF to continue providing leadership in creating an enabling environment for sustained dialogue and collective action towards advancing the interests, prosperity and development aspirations of the people of the region.

Chief Ojemen, who is fondly referred to by his supporters and admirers as “Chief Don P. Ojemen”, noted that the Niger Delta region remains a critical economic hub for Nigeria, stressing that achieving lasting peace and development in the region would have far-reaching benefits for the nation’s economy and overall stability.

Responding, Ambassador Igali, welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed the forum’s commitment to championing the interests of the Niger Delta people through constructive engagement and advocacy.

He described PANDEF as the apex socio-political organisation representing the people of the South-South geopolitical zone, adding that the body remains focused on promoting development, resource control and equitable treatment of the region within the Nigerian federation.

According to him, the forum’s leadership comprises respected elders, traditional rulers and political leaders from across the Niger Delta, with elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark, remaining one of its most notable figures.

Igali said PANDEF would continue to advocate true federalism, the completion of critical infrastructure projects such as the East-West Road, and the peaceful resolution of regional and national political issues affecting the country’s progress.
