Nigerian Immigration Service Confirms Suspected Terrorists Attack On Ogbomoso Office

The attack reportedly occurred around 10pm on Tuesday, triggering concerns over the growing wave of insecurity targeting public institutions across the country.

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has confirmed an attack by armed men on its office in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, although authorities have yet to disclose the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

The attack reportedly occurred around 10pm on Tuesday, triggering concerns over the growing wave of insecurity targeting public institutions across the country.

Confirming the development to SaharaReporters on Wednesday, the spokesperson for the NIS, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, acknowledged that the agency’s facility in Ogbomoso came under attack but said he was still awaiting a comprehensive briefing on the incident.

“I am getting a briefing on this. I will call you back in a few minutes,” Akinlabi said during a telephone conversation with SaharaReporters.

However, more than an hour after the conversation, the Immigration Service spokesperson had yet to provide further details on the attack and did not respond to subsequent calls seeking clarification.

As of the time of filing this report, it remained unclear whether there were casualties, injuries, arrests, or damage to property resulting from the attack.

Efforts to obtain an official response from the Oyo State Police Command were unsuccessful.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olushola Olayinka, neither answered repeated telephone calls nor responded to a text message seeking comments on the incident. Calls placed to his line were redirected to voicemail.

The attack comes amid escalating security concerns in several parts of Oyo State and the South-West region, where incidents of armed attacks, kidnappings and assaults on government facilities have continued to raise alarm among residents.

Security agencies are yet to issue a detailed statement on the motive behind the attack or whether any suspects have been identified.
