Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has said the Federal Government has recently taken decisive steps to address persistent gas supply challenges affecting electricity generation in the country.
Adelabu, who stated this in his Eid-el-Fitri (Sallah) message to Nigerians titled “Let Our Sacrifices Strengthen National Progress”, however expressed optimism that government’s interventions are already yielding gradual improvements and will significantly enhance power supply in the near future.
Tribune Online reports that Nigeria’s power sector is facing imminent collapse as gas suppliers have reduced the amount they supplied to thermal power plants across the country. As of 5th March 2026, the national grid generation stood at 3,940.53 MW according to the Nigeria Independent System Operator (NISO).
But the minister, while assuring Nigerians on the steps being taken by the Bola Tinubu-led administration, said, “Concrete measures are being implemented to ensure more reliable and sustainable electricity for homes, businesses, and industries. The reforms initiated by President Tinubu are beginning to take root and Nigerians will soon witness the full benefits.”
He added, “As we celebrate, we take pride in the strides being made under President Tinubu’s leadership, including his recent engagements in the United Kingdom, which promise significant gains in investment, bilateral relations and economic cooperation.
“These milestones underscore a new direction for our nation. I urge all Nigerians to continue supporting these efforts so that the gains can be consolidated for the benefit of all… through unwavering dedication to its progress and alignment with the policies and programmes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The challenges we face today are, without doubt, the building blocks of a more prosperous tomorrow.”
He said through continued personal and national sacrifice, the transformative agenda of Bola Ahmed Tinubu would increasingly translate into tangible progress across key sectors of the economy.
Tribune Online reports that President Tinubu has directed all public office holders who may want to contest one position or the other to tender their resignation on or before March 31st, 2026. However, there are unconfirmed reports that the minister may resign his appointment within the next few days as he is positioning himself for the coveted seat of the Oyo State governor on the platform of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
Adelabu has contested Oyo governorship twice. First in 2019 as candidate of the APC and in 2023 under Accord Party.
