BENIN CITY: The Edo State Government has appointed Hon. Peter Odibo as the substantive General Manager of Bendel Newspapers Corporation Limited, publishers of The Observer titles.
Odibo, who hails from Uwesan Ward III in Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State, has since assumed duty at the corporation’s headquarters on Airport Road in Benin City.
Before his appointment, he served as a councillor in Esan Central Local Government Area and later as Special Adviser to former Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki.
During a brief meeting with the management of the corporation, the new General Manager received the handover note from the outgoing acting General Manager, Mr Sylvester Oboh.
Odibo appealed for the support and cooperation of the management team in repositioning the state-owned newspaper organisation.
He later met with members of staff and management of the company, where he reaffirmed his commitment to actualising the mandate of Governor Monday Okpebholo to reposition the corporation for greater productivity.
Odibo assured the workforce that he would work closely with the state government to ensure that Bendel Newspapers regains its rightful place in the nation’s newspaper industry.
Earlier, Mr Oboh briefed the new General Manager on the state of affairs of the corporation and expressed optimism that the fortunes of the company would improve as efforts are intensified to address existing challenges.
Following the meeting, Odibo was taken on a guided tour of the corporation’s printing facilities at the headquarters.
