The attacks targeted Nigerian Army positions in Mainok, Jakana, Marte, and Konduga.
In the video, shared on X by researcher Brant Philip on Sunday, heavily armed terrorists were seen firing indiscriminately while setting parts of a military camp ablaze amid intense gunfire.
Footage also revealed a large cache of weapons, ammunition, military vehicles, and dozens of motorcycles allegedly seized from the Nigerian Army during the raids.
The fighters displayed the items in what appeared to be an inventory of captured military equipment. Voices speaking in Hausa and Arabic could be heard in the background, celebrating the operation.
“Alhamdulillah Rabbil Alamin, Allahu Akbar. God Almighty has brought us here and God Almighty has chased them away. All the vehicles you are seeing here belong to the Nigerian Army,” one of the voices said.
Last Friday, SaharaReporters exclusively reported how the terrorists simultaneously attacked four military bases in Mainok, Jakana, Marte, and Konduga between 10 pm on Thursday night and 3 am on Friday.
They reportedly fired at the military facilities sporadically, causing numerous casualties.
The gunmen also came in different groups and could not be counted.
Giving an update on Saturday, multiple sources told SaharaReporters that more than 40 corpses of dead soldiers had been recovered.
Among those killed was a senior officer, Lieutenant Colonel S.I. Iliyasu, the Commanding Officer of the 222 Battalion. Iliyasu and several of his men were reportedly slain in Konduga during the terrorist attack.
SaharaReporters also learned that the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, is currently in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, in response to the incident.
“We lost over 40 soldiers to those attacks. It’s so sad; we still can’t find some of our men, can’t say if they are alive or dead, but over 40 bodies have been recovered as of now,” a military source told SaharaReporters.
“It’s so much that the Chief Army Staff had to pay an emergency visit to Borno this morning; right now, he’s at the Headquarters Theatre command in Maiduguri for more brief on the whole attacks.”
Both security agents and civilians have suffered several attacks at the hands of terrorists in Borno in recent times. Boko Haram and its offshoot, Islamic State West Africa Province, have killed thousands and displaced millions in northeastern Nigeria.
The North-East region of Nigeria has for years faced persistent insurgent attacks by ISWAP and other extremist factions, despite repeated military operations aimed at degrading their capabilities.
