Final-year Celebration Turns Tragic As Ambrose Ali Varsity Student Dies In Motorcade Crash

By Idahosa Musa

A student of the Edo State–owned Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, has died in an auto crash while celebrating the completion of his final examinations in a motorcade around Ujoelen Junction along the Ekpoma–Auchi Expressway.

The student, whose identity was yet to be confirmed as of press time, was reported to be part of a motorcade of fresh graduates who took to the highway on Monday after their signing-out activities.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the jubilant students failed to observe basic safety rules during the celebration.

Alltimepost.com scooped that the deceased attempted to overtake a moving truck when he reportedly collided with a stationary vehicle.

The Edo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Cyril Mathew, confirmed the incident, stating that one person died while five others sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

According to Mathew, “The students, after writing their last paper, entered the road in a convoy. In the process, one of them overtook another vehicle and rammed into a stationary truck.”

He advised students to celebrate within campus areas and to always prioritize safety, noting that “there is life after graduation.”
