In a chilling development, the Edo State Police Command has sounded the alarm over a sinister extortion scheme involving bomb threats in the state.
It was learned that anonymous callers are targeting unsuspecting individuals, businesses, and corporate organizations, claiming that explosive devices have been planted in their premises and demanding money to prevent detonation.
This brazen attempt to extort money through fear and intimidation across the state has been identified by the operatives who have now informed the public that they are taking swift and decisive action to combat the impending threats.
Conveying the message of the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, in a statement released by the State Command Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikodem, said the police have provided clear guidelines to help citizens stay safe.
The statement warned against public panic or giving in to the demands, urging all to stay vigilant, report suspicious activities, calls or messages and avoid spreading unverified information.
“We urge the public to remain calm and not succumb to these demands,” says CP Monday Agbonika, Commissioner of Police.
“Our Explosive Ordinance Department is equipped to detect and deactivate explosives, and we are deploying specialized units to respond to these threats”, according to the statement issued.
The Command, Ikodem noted, is working closely with telecommunication service providers and security agencies to track down the perpetrators.
“If you see something, say something,” urges ASP Eno Ikodem, Deputy Police Public Relations Officer. “Together, we can defeat crime and keep our state safe.”
While assuring of its commitment to protecting lives, property, and economic activities within, the command added that every report will be treated with utmost urgency and professionalism.
