NBM Donates Blood At FUTH In Lafia To Save Lives, Support Healthcare Delivery

Determined to save lives and ease the burden of patients requiring blood transfusion, the Lafia Zone of the NBM of Africa Worldwide has donated blood to patients at the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

The humanitarian intervention, which formed part of the organization’s 2026 Worldwide Humanitarian Programmes and Agenda, was designed to boost the availability of safe blood for patients, particularly those battling emergencies and medical conditions requiring urgent transfusion.

Speaking on behalf of the President of the NBM of Africa Worldwide, Dr. Charles Chimezie during the exercise, the Lafia Zonal President of the Organization, Mr. Abdullahi Itari, said the initiative was driven by the organization’s commitment to humanity and its determination to contribute meaningfully to the wellbeing of vulnerable members of society.

Itari said the blood donation exercise was aimed at providing assistance to patients in need while also encouraging voluntary blood donation among members of the public.

According to him, “The visit is to carry out a humanitarian outreach to conduct a free blood donation exercise for the benefit of patients and other persons in need of blood transfusion.”

He explained that NBM of Africa was a Pan-African and humanitarian organization committed to promoting justice, combating oppression and other societal vices, as well as providing humanitarian assistance to vulnerable members of society.

The zonal president stressed that the blood donation campaign was more than an organizational activity, describing it as a life-saving intervention capable of giving hope to patients and families confronted with critical medical emergencies.

He said the organisation would continue to explore initiatives capable of making positive impacts in communities, urging eligible members of the public to embrace voluntary blood donation.

Receiving the gesture, the management of the teaching hospital expressed profound appreciation to the Lafia Zone of NBM of Africa Worldwide, describing the exercise as timely and significant to healthcare delivery.

The hospital management stressed the importance of blood to the survival of patients, particularly those requiring urgent transfusion, and said the donated blood would be made available to people who genuinely needed it.

The management further emphasized that the demand for blood remained high in Nigeria, noting that available blood supplies could make the difference between life and death for patients in emergency situations.

It said, “One out of three Nigerians needs blood,” while urging more individuals and organizations to support voluntary blood donation and help strengthen the nation’s blood supply system.

The hospital management commended NBM of Africa Worldwide for demonstrating compassion beyond words through the humanitarian gesture, saying the initiative would contribute to saving lives and supporting patients who might otherwise struggle to obtain blood during critical moments.

The exercise, according to the organization, underscores its broader humanitarian commitment to touching lives and supporting vulnerable people, with the Lafia Zone pledging to sustain activities that promote the welfare and wellbeing of members of the community.
