Benin City, the ancient capital of Edo State of Nigeria, came alive in colors, music and celebration on Saturday as the families of Philip Osayande and the late Sunday Imuentinyan Usiomoifo united in a memorable traditional marriage ceremony that drew admiration from guests and well-wishers across the state.
The joyous occasion witnessed the formal joining of their children, Gift Osayande and Roland Usunobun Usiomoifo, in what many guests described as a remarkable display of culture, family unity and enduring love.
The traditional bride price paying and wedding ceremony took place at No. 79 Arughase Street, opposite July 17 Fuel Filling Station, off Textile Mill Road, Benin City, where relatives, friends and community members gathered in large numbers to witness the colorful rites.
The atmosphere was electrifying as traditional music, dancing and cultural displays turned the event into a carnival-like celebration.
The bride and groom, elegantly dressed in rich traditional attire, stole the spotlight as they exchanged smiles and heartfelt moments before cheering guests.
Shortly after the traditional rites, the celebration shifted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, No. 108 Television Road, Benin City, where an elaborate reception party was held in honor of the newly married couple.
Guests were lavishly entertained with an array of African and Continental dishes, alongside assorted drinks and lively entertainment that kept the atmosphere vibrant throughout the event.
The reception, widely applauded for its superb organisation and hospitality, attracted dignitaries, family friends, associates and well-wishers who joined the couple to celebrate the beginning of their marital journey.
Many attendees praised both families for hosting what they described as one of the most colourful and well-coordinated wedding ceremonies seen in Benin City in recent times.
Beyond the glamour and festivities, the event reflected the enduring value of family bonds, cultural heritage and communal celebration in Edo society.
As the music faded and guests departed with smiles and goodwill, one message resonated strongly from the celebration: love, unity and tradition remain powerful forces that continue to bind families and communities together.
