Police In Edo Arrest 64-year-old Surety Over Escaped Bigamy Suspect ‎

Operatives of Edo State Police Command have arrested one Enabulele Sampson, 64, who reportedly acted as surety for a suspected bigamist.

‎‎Sampson was reportedly taken into custody for failing to produce the bigamy suspect, identified as Ajayi Patrick.

‎‎Spokesman for the Edo State police command, ASP. Eno Ikoedem who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, said the surety would be arraigned in court to show cause why the bail bond should not be forfeited.

‎‎Eno explained that the arrest followed Mr. Sampson’s failure to comply with directives given after Mr. Patrick was granted bail in line with standard police procedure.

‎‎She said Investigations have revealed that the suspect has fled the country to Canada to evade law enforcement, prompting the command to contact INTERPOL for assistance in apprehending him.

‎‎The incident, according to her, stems from a complaint received on March 12, 2026, alleging that Mr. Patrick was attempting to register marriage at the Federal Marriage Registry on March 14, 2026, despite having an existing marital union.

‎‎According to her, upon receiving the complaint at Aideyan Police Division, operatives were promptly deployed to the venue.

‎‎”The complainant, Igho Joy of Upper Mission Extension, was requested to provide supporting documents, including a marriage certificate, to substantiate the claim of bigamy.

“The Command explained that while efforts were ongoing to establish a prima facie case, the suspect was granted bail in line with standard police procedure, ‎noting that bigamy is a bailable offence.

“Bigamy, being a bailable offence, it allowed for the suspect’s release to a surety pending further investigation,” the statement added.

‎‎The Command also dismissed allegations of corruption and complicity levelled against the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Aideyan Division, CSP Adesuwa Omoruyi, describing the claims as false and misleading.

‎‎It said the accusations, reportedly made by a group identified as the “Freedom Ambassadors Organization,” do not reflect the true sequence of events surrounding a bigamy case involving one Ajayi Patrick.
