The award was recently presented at the 2026 SMAGOGA Awards and Alumni Gala Night held at Madison Place in Victoria Island.
The Award was received on behalf of the governor by Omorede Osifo, who represented the Edo State Government at the event.
Speaking after receiving the award, Osifo expressed the governor’s appreciation to the association for recognising the administration’s efforts at repositioning the state through people-oriented policies and sustainable development initiatives.
She said the recognition would further motivate the administration to sustain programmes aimed at improving infrastructure, empowering citizens and strengthening institutions across the state.
The OPAL Award is the second major recognition received by the governor in recent times, following his emergence as Best Governor of the Year in Education for 2025 by the New Telegraph Newspaper.
The St. Maria Goretti Girls’ Grammar School alumni association is known for promoting education, women empowerment and initiatives that contribute to societal development.
The event attracted members of the SMAGOGA alumni network, corporate leaders, professionals and other notable Nigerians who gathered to celebrate leadership, service and the enduring legacy of the institution.
