Peter Obi Donates N15m To St. Philomena Hospital In Edo

A Presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress and former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, has donated N15m to the St. Philomena College of Nursing, Benin, Edp State.

A similar donation last year by Obi to the same hospital sparked reaction that made Governor Monday Okpebholo barring Obi from entering the state without prior information.

Governor Okpebholo said the 2025 visit of Obi led to the death of three persons.
Obi, however, declined comment when asked if he took permission from Governor Okpebholo to visit this year.

Speaking after making the donation, Obi said he would rather donate to support humanity than give out money to buy votes.
Obi said there were no primary health care in all villages in the country whereas some neighbouring countries have 90 percent medical insurance coverage.
He said there was a need to invest in the future of children in the country.

According to him, “I came last year and I said I will come at least once in a year. It is very important. Our support to this college is to the students.

“We are investing in you for our better living. We are not dashing you anything. The investment in you will contribute to securing the future.

“Here is a country, where, if you go to all the villages, there are no primary health care. In other countries they have over 90 percent medical insurance coverage.

“Every village has a primary health care manned by two or three nurses. We don’t have enough nursing schools. Nurses are needed all over the world.

“I have been in care before I join politics. I am not doing it for politics. Most places where I go, they don’t vote. We need to invest in the future of these children.

“I don’t want to to give money to people to vote for me. God created us to do this to ensure a better society.

Administrator for the College of Nursing, Rev Jerome Idibe, thanked Obi for coming to the facility and for the generous donation.
