The Edo State Government has announced a new resumption date for all public and private primary and secondary schools in Edo Central Senatorial District, bringing an end to the earlier postponement of the second term.In a public special announcement issued by the State’s Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, schools in the district are now scheduled to resume for the Second Term of the 2025/2026 academic session on Monday, January 19, 2026.
Dr Iyamu, said the decision followed a review of the earlier postponement, urging parents, guardians, school heads, proprietors and other education stakeholders to take note and ensure full compliance.
According to him, the directive applies to all public and private primary and secondary schools within Edo Central Senatorial District and is aimed at ensuring a smooth and effective commencement of academic activities.
Parents and guardians were advised to make necessary arrangements to enable their children and wards resume promptly, while school authorities were urged to put all academic and administrative structures in place ahead of the new date.
The Ministry of Education also expressed appreciation to stakeholders for their patience, cooperation and understanding, assuring that the state government remains committed to improving the welfare of students and creating a conducive learning environment across Edo State.
The announcement brings clarity to weeks of uncertainty surrounding the resumption date in Edo Central, as academic activities are now set to fully resume next Monday.
It would be recalled that the Edo State Government had last week announced the postponement of public cum private schools in the senatorial district, where Governor Monday Okpebholo hails from.
The postponement may not be unconnected to the rising insecurity in the area, as it would be recalled that violent protest a few days ago engulfed Ekpoma, Edo Central over incessant kidnappings in the locality.
The angry protesters vandalised the Palace of the Onojie of Ekpoma, just as shops were looted, an act the state government had condemned in strong terms.
