By Idahosa Musa

Edo State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a 43-year-old man, Eghosa Osas, who was visiting for Christmas celebration and arrested his childhood friend, Amadin William, alleged to be responsible for the murder in Oben community of Edo State, Nigeria.

The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Eno Ikoedem, who disclosed this on Sunday, said that the incident was reported by the victim’s elder brother.

She said preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased, who had recently returned from abroad to celebrate Christmas with his family, was attacked during a house-warming party in the community.

According to Ikoedem, the victim reportedly excused himself from the gathering when the suspect allegedly cornered him and inflicted a fatal machete cut on his neck.

She added that the suspect fled the scene after the attack but was later tracked and arrested by operatives of the Command in Benin.

The police spokesperson stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack, assuring that the Command would ensure diligent prosecution.

“The suspect is currently in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,” Ikoedem said.
