Governor Monday Okpehbolo of Edo State has described the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) victory at last Saturday’s Edo Central Senatorial and Ovia Federal Constituency by-elections as a reflection of the People’s trust in the party’s candidates.
Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared at the wee hours on Sunday the duo of Dr. Joseph Ikpea and Barr. Omosede Igbinedion, of the APC winners of the Senatorial and House of Representative elections.
According to INEC, Ikpea scored 105, 129 votes; while his closest rival, Joe Okojie, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) pulled 15, 146 votes; Barr. Igbinedion garnered 77, 053 votes, Johnny Aikpitanyi, PDP candidate scored 3, 838 votes and Dr. Sandra Asemota of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), 925 votes.
Reacting to the development on Sunday through his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Fred Itua, the Governor, commended the people for coming out to vote for the APC candidates, assuring that Ikpea and Igbinedion would bring adequate representations to the people.
“This victory is a clear indication of the trust and confidence the people have in Ikpea and Igbinedion’s abilities to represent their interests effectively at the National Assembly.
“I have no doubt that Ikpea and Igbinedion will be strong and powerful voices for our State, working tirelessly to attract development and ensure that the people of Edo Central and Ovia Federal Constituency receive the attention they deserve,” said Governor Okpehbolo.

He also commended INEC for conducting what he described as “a free, fair, and credible elections” and praised the security agencies for maintaining peace and order throughout the electoral process.
